How to Choose the Right Boat Lift Canopy Replacement (Without Guessing)
Replacement canopies are cut to fit a specific frame. Ordering one requires four pieces of information:
- Frame manufacturer and style
- Size length in feet, width in inches
- Fabric five options, 8 oz to 19 oz
- Attachment system determined by the frame
Work through the sections below in order. Each one narrows the next.
A note on tolerance: covers are cut to the frame, not approximated to it. Undersized covers won't reach the attachment points. Oversized covers flap, and flapping is the primary cause of premature failure, loose fabric abrades itself at the seams far faster than sun or rain degrade it.
1. Frame Identification
Identify by shape, then narrow to manufacturer and style.
Several manufacturers build multiple frame styles that share no dimensions with each other. A ShoreMaster Standard and a ShoreMaster TowerMax take entirely different covers. Manufacturer alone is not enough to order from.

Family A: Shallow, pipe-pocket ends
Profile: Shallow canopy. Both ends slide into large side rail tubes approximately 4 inches in diameter. No other system uses this configuration.
Frames: ShoreStation, Lakeside (also sold as LSP or Lakeshore Products)
Differentiating: The two systems are close to identical. Check the lift structure and hardware for brand markings. Absent markings, measure and compare against both size charts, or submit photos for identification.
Older ShoreStation variant: Pockets run the length of the sides with long metal bands inside; clips have sharp hooks that attach to the ribs. Same manufacturer, earlier attachment generation.
Family B: Rounded ends
Profile: End panels curve rather than terminating flat or peaking.

Fastest check: Vent flaps in the ends confirm ShoreMaster. They are usually visible with the cover installed.
Family C: Flat ends, peaked roof
Profile: Flat end panels with a peaked roof.
Frames: Hewitt Flat Front, Porta-Dock, FLOE Standard, Pier Pleasure
This is the largest family and the most common source of ordering errors. Four frames share the profile, so identification depends on hardware and secondary details rather than silhouette.

Hewitt Flat Front vs. Porta-Dock: Hardware does not separate these two, both use 1" webbing snaps at the peak. Check for brand markings on the hardware. Where markings are absent, submit photos before ordering.
Family D: Tower frames
Profile: Frames sit noticeably higher than standard styles, with a more pronounced roof peak.
Frames: ShoreMaster TowerMax, Hewitt Tower, FLOE Maxis
Hardware indicators: Hewitt Tower uses 1" webbing snaps at the peak. FLOE uses a clamp-and-elastic system on older models.
Family E: Flared ends
Profile: Ends curve outward as they descend, rather than dropping straight or rounding over.

If the frame can't be identified
Photograph the following and submit for identification:
- Both frame ends, straight on
- Roof profile from the side
- Attachment hardware at the peak
- Side rails, including any tags or stamped markings

2. Measuring
Measure the frame. Do not measure the existing cover.
Vinyl stretches with age. A cover installed for eight seasons commonly measures two to four inches longer than the frame beneath it. Sizes taken from stretched fabric produce a loose replacement.
Length: Front to back along the side rail, outside edge to outside edge. Record in feet.
Width: Across the frame, outside edge to outside edge. Record in inches.
Procedure notes:
- Remove the existing cover before measuring where possible. Measuring over fabric adds an inch or more.
- Measure both ends. Frames go out of square with age. Where the ends differ, use the larger figure.
- Measurement method varies by frame style. Hewitt Tower and FLOE frames differ from the general procedure. Use the measurement diagram on the relevant brand page rather than these general instructions.
Between sizes: Call before ordering. Rounding direction depends on frame style and attachment system and is not consistent across manufacturers.
3. Fabric Selection

Select heavier weight when: the lift is on open water with consistent wind, the canopy stays up through shoulder seasons, or previous covers have failed at the seams. Heavier vinyl resists the flex fatigue that causes wind-driven failure.
Select lighter weight when: the canopy is installed and removed seasonally by one person. An 18–19 oz cover on a 30-foot frame is heavy and difficult to handle alone on a dock.
Weight does not determine lifespan. Shelter-Rite STL13 at 13 oz carries a longer warranty than RecWater at 19 oz. Warranty reflects coating and construction rather than thickness. Where longevity is the priority, use the warranty column.
Service life: In freshwater use with winter storage, expect approximately 3–5 years from lighter fabrics and 7–10+ years from heavier and longer-warrantied options. High-UV exposure shortens all figures.

4. Color Selection

Full sun exposure with regular time spent under the lift: select light. Shaded or wooded location where staining is the concern: select dark or tweed.
Color availability varies by fabric. Confirm the color exists in the selected material before ordering.
